Supported Mpeg2 Decoder Cards

WireReady® systems allow users to mix and match cards in our rack mount rigs (or your own Windows rigs) to achieve from 1 to 3 play and/or ingest streams on a given machine. Multiple machines on a gigabit LAN can be arranged to equip as many booths, studios, newsrooms and production bays as a facility prefers.

Customers can configure ready-to-use WireReady® built rack mount rigs (see rack mount page), or you can license our technology and equip your own rigs with a combination of cards below for professional frame-accurate MPEG2 decoding solutions.

WireReady's file-based playout technology accepts MPEG2 (*.mpg) files over any LAN, local drive or removable media device. Our software lets you index all stored files and incorporated metadata for asset management and playout purposes. Metadata can be typed in by the user on the Playout machine or any LAN connected PC with an admin license of our software. You can also supply metadata in a companion file supplied with the MPG file.

Because we are file based and let you directly COPY files to the playout computer(s), you do not need to FTP files and you do not need to real-time dub files into the playout box like with legacy playout server systems. Indexing can be done on the playout box itself even while video is playing, or you can index MPG files with our admin software from other PCs on the LAN. A driver is required for indexing, but no special hardware or card is required to index MPG files into our system. Indexing is about as fast as we can copy the file from where ever it happens to be to the drive(s) on the playout machine. This is much faster than a real time dub or FTP. On most customer hardware, they can index/copy an MPG commercial over to Playout in a matter of seconds.

Most stations now capture and produce video with 3rd party capture/editing systems like Adobe's Premiere Pro and other popular MPEG2 compatible file systems or use MPEG2 compatible cameras and recorders. If you need to record real-time video, check out our MPEG2 capture/ingest page.

Composite SD Single Channel Mpeg2 Decoder Cards*

230 Single Channel Mpeg2 Decoder Card

With Stradis standard definition decoders, your MPEG video application can offer:

  • Continuous, seamless back-to-back playback of multiple MPEG streams (which may be in different formats: Transport, Program, System or Elementary streams)

  • Frame-accurate, synchronized playback across multiple decoders

  • High-speed, random access and display of any I-Frame in an MPEG file for variable speed reverse and forward play, plus seamless switching to any I-frame of another stream

  • Complete control over all decoder functions via the Stradis Application Program Interface (API) for Windows. Applications access the API with a C-style interface using the __stdcall calling convention

  • True-color graphics over video or still pictures with keying and 64 levels of blending and shading
  • Digital control of video saturation, brightness, contrast, gamma and hue
  • Hardware Audio/Video synchronization
  • Genlock synchronizes decoder output to external reference H-sync, V-sync and chroma burst (not available on SDM230)
  • Two balanced analog audio outputs with line-levels up to 28 dBm (not available on SDM230)
  • Vertical Interval Time Code (VITC) based on stream time codes or synthesized by the API
  • Wave file playback and raw PCM audio playback
  • Virtual streams based on a single, repeated I-Frame that can be seamlessly played back-to-back with other MPEG streams
  • Video image can be displayed on the computer's VGA monitor, with scan-rate and color conversion

*Each added card allows the same computer to play more than one stream of video. For example with 2 cards you can play one channel over the air while previewing another or running a second station if necessary off the very same box. We do recommend one station per box when your budget allows.

HD Single Channel Mpeg2 Decoder Cards*

500 Single Channel Mpeg2 Decoder Card

Professional Performance The Stradis HDM500e High-Definition MPEG-2 Decoder decodes MP@HL (4:2:0) video at up to 80 Mbps. It provides continuous, frame-accurate, seamless back-to-back playback of all standard MPEG-2 streams. The HDM500e decodes 1920x1080i, 1280x720p, 720x576p, 720x576i, 720x480p or 720x480i streams and outputs them scaled to 720p or 1080i. HDM500e applications include playback from disk for server applications and real-time decoding from a satellite or terrestrial network.

Multiple Video Outputs The HDM500e High-Definition MPEG-2 Decoder has three video outputs for maximum flexibility. Use the High-Definition Serial Digital Interface (SMPTE 292M) video output and the Digital Visual Interface (DVI) or the analog RGB (or YPbPr) output. It can also display the video image on the computer's VGA monitor (in lower resolution to conserve PCI bus bandwidth).
