Get the specs on the computers you'll need - including information on chipsets/CPU speed - memory - printing - storage - removable media - monitors - sound cards - Internet availability and operating systems...

Supported Chipsets/CPU speed:
Pentium or better 200Mhz. 300-500Mhz are fine. Anything faster than 1Ghz is considered a rocketship. Desktops or laptops work fine.

RAM/Memory:
NewsReady typically uses less than 8MB of RAM. We recommend 128MB or more for Win2000, 256MB or more for XP Memory recommendations are more for Windows and other applications than us.

COM Ports:
While many wire services are going TCP/IP and FTP based, traditional services that use COM ports require standard COM ports to be captured. NewsReady can capture using virtual COM devices such as USB external com ports or even Ethernet based COM ports. WireReady sells virtual devices for computers that no longer have COM ports if a COM port is required.

Parallel port/Security Keys:
NewsReady can require a security key in some instances. Currently the security key requires a parallel port. However, site licenses of our software do not check for the key and no parallel port is required if a site license is purchased.

Printing:
Inkjet or Laser Printer for hard-copy (if you want paper output)

Monitor/Display:
Minimum 15" 600x800 monitor/resolution. 17" recommended with 1048/768 resolution. CRT or LCD fine.

Storage:
50-100MB for system, wire news and local news archives. Add additional storage for audio, pictures or video as required. Audio generally recorded/played as linear WAV 2.6MB/minute for 22K mono, 5.2MB/minute for 44K mono Double this for stereo. Any sample rate is supported - customer preference.

Removable Media:
Software allows users to read or write files to removable media. CDR, DVDR, Flash USB drives etc all work with device's included software/drivers. Note - we don't require specific hard-drive types. IDE/ATA is fine.

Sound Cards:
All Windows compatible MME WAV devices generally work. Audio Science, Creative Labs, Digigram, Digital Audio Labs, Echo, M-Audio, Lynx, etc. Onboard sound cards, USB, firewire, etc. all work as well. NewsReady will address multiple devices for as many recording or playback/overlaps as required. Many customers equip their air system with up to 3 playback channels.

Internet:
Only required if you want to surf the net, email or exchange data with other locations. Internet connection allows WireReady techs to setup your system and train you. Dial up Internet or dialup connections with PC/Anywhere also supported.

Operating System:
Windows 2000/XP/2003 Recommended. Older versions available for Win95/98 - but discouraged.
