The Broadcast Tools Mono/Stereo 6 X 1 "A" Switcher/Router The 6 X 1 "A" is available with a rack panel adapter, but we recommend that it sit on top of your studio console for manual operation in addition to remote control with CartReady. A detailed bound manual is included from Broadcast Tools which provides detailed information for audio connections. Control Operation with ControlReady: (Connection to USN1616 summarized:) The BT-6X1 "A" switcher utilizes a MALE 15 pin connector for remote control. Control for each channel is via a TTL/CMOS pin which has been pulled high. When you short the pin to ground it causes the 6 X 1 to switch to that channel. The system is interlocked, so shorting another one moves to the next channel. If you ever short more than one pin at a time to ground, nothing will pass until you release one of the pins. We recommend 100ms pulses for proper switching. Pin 1 is Channel 1, Pin 2 is Channel 2 etc. 14 and 15 are grounded for easy cross connects. We've included a pre-made cable designed for easy connection to the 16x16. It has been presoldered into pins 1 thru 6, and 14 and 15 which are for grounds. Pin 13 is the Clear/Mute channel. Each channel control connection to the 16x16 is as follows: 6X1 INPUT PIN -----> N/O RELAY OUTPUT ON 16X16---------| 6X1 GROUND PIN <-----COMMON RELAY OUTPUT ON 16X16-------| When you set a command in a CartReady Playlist such as PULSE B1-A HI 100ms, relay "A" on the USN16x16 controller closes momentarily. The N/O output will connect to COMMON which is wired back to a ground pin on the 6 X 1 thus grounding the INPUT pin on the 6 X 1. Thus the 6 X 1 will switch to that channel and pass audio from channel one out the switchers output. A cable has been supplied with the following pins connected. The hood has been left off so you can see which color is connected to which pin on the SWITCHER. You can put the hood on at your convenience. Note: Pin-outs were changed as of 2/27/95 to those below. AUDIO 6X1 SWITCHER USN16x16 Controller PLAYLIST CHANNEL DB15 PIN Tinned Only CH 1 1 and 14 54 and 55 B1-A CH 2 2 and 14 51 and 52 B1-B CH 3 3 and 14 48 and 49 B1-C CH 4 4 and 15 45 and 46 B1-D CH 5 5 and 15 42 and 43 B1-E CH 6 6 and 15 39 and 40 B1-F MUTE 13 and 15 36 and 37 B1-G Where 1 thru 6 are the input pin connections and 14 and 15 are grounds on the 6X1 SWITCHER. Each pair controls the specific audio channel on the switcher, i.e #1 and 14 control CH 1. Note 14 and 15 are interchangeable and are simply returns for the control signals. We've suggested which relays on the USN1616 to connect, but this is up to you. For example, if you connect 1 and 20 to 54 and 55 on the USN1616, you need to PULSE B1-A for 100ms to switch to CH1 on the switcher Logic: The PULSE B1-A command closes 54 and 55 on the USN1616, which switches to CH 1. The #'s mentioned for the USN16x16 controller are the COMMON and N/O contacts for relays 1 thru 6 respectively. TECHDOCS\INSTALL\6X116X1A.INS 1 of 1 4/95 B Cabling Worksheet We've included a pre-made, tinned cable that lets you easily connect the 6x1A switcher to our USN1616 controller. Name: USN1616-BT6X1 "A" Cable Purpose: Plug and play cable connection between USN1616 controller and Broadcast Tools 6X1 switcher/router used with CartReady Connectors: First end: DB15 FEMALE Other end: No connector, just stripped and tinned. Pin outs: 1 ________________ Red 2 ________________ Green 3 ________________ Blue 4 ________________ Brown 5 ________________ Orange 6 ________________ Pink 13 _______________ Yellow 14 _______________ Red&Black, Blue&Black, Green&Black, 15 _______________ Brown&White, Orange&Black, Pink&Black, Yellow&Black Functional: 1-6 are the inputs to select channels 1-6 respectively. When you hit short 1 to ground, it switches, etc. 14&15 are convenient ground points available on the 6X1. In this manner, easy pair combinations can be connected to the common and Normally Open (NO) contacts on the relays of the 16x16 controller. TECHDOCS\ASSEMBLY\USN6X1.CAB 4/95 1 of 1 C
