Installing Your CartReady System in Windows95
Your CartReady system can now be installed and configured to
run in Windows 95. The following will explain how to install and
then configure the various settings and hardware. Note: You do not have
to run it from Windows 95 unless you ABSOLUTELY NEED TO. You can also use simple DOS. In
fact DOS runs faster, and nothing can go wrong since in DOS the software is the only thing
running. However if you have a fast Pentium, with lots of RAM, and need to do other things
on the same computer, here's the info you need to set the software up. Before You Begin Please note that CartReady must be run through an MS-DOS
box and NOT through MS-DOS MODE. Do NOT restart your computer in MS-DOS
mode. Installing CartReady 1) Left click on the Start button on the
bottom left of your screen. 2) Then highlight MS-DOS Prompt and left click.
3) This will bring you to a MS-DOS prompt. Then following our
included instructions on installing your software. I.e install disk 1 in the A: drive,
type A: hit ENTER, type SETUP. 4) Once you have installed our software, you will be returned to a DOS prompt. Type EXIT
and press to return to your Windows95 desktop. Creating an Icon (shortcut) on your Desktop Once you have installed the software we must create an icon which will appear on your
Windows95 desktop. This will allow you to click on the icon we create to start the
software. 1) From the desktop right click. This will bring up a menu. 2) Highlight New by placing the mouse pointer over it. This
will bring up another menu. 3) Highlight Shortcut and left click. 4) It will bring up a screen asking you to type in the command line. Type in the following: C:\WIRE\LOADCART.BAT If you are using a drive other than C: then put in the correct drive letter. When done press or left click Next. 5) Then it will ask you to type in a name for the shortcut. This is the name that the
icon will have on your desktop. Although it can be whatever you like, we recommend typing
in CartReady. Press or left click Next when
done. 6) It will then ask you to select an icon. Select whatever icon you wish it to appear
as on your desktop (there is a satellite available if you wish). Left click Finish
when your done. The icon will appear on the desktop. Double Left
Click to start the program. Configuring Your CardD + Audio Card(s) If you are using a CardD + audio card, then no configuration in Windows 95 is necessary
(it is not plug-n-play). Follow the included handout Configuring Your Audio
Cards to configure the card(s) within CartReady. Configuring Your SoundBlaster Audio Card(s) Windows95 will automatically find your SoundBlaster audio cards. It will configure the
settings for you. However, you must see what the settings are that Windows 95 assigns to
the cards. To do this: 1) From the desktop left click the Start button on the lower
left corner of the desktop. 2) Highlight Settings by placing the mouse pointer over this
option. This will open another menu. 3) From this menu left click Control Panel. 4) This will bring you to a window. Double Left Click System.
5) Left Click Device Manager. This will show you a list of
different devices. 6) The second one from the bottom will Sound, Video and Game Controllers. Double
Left Click on this option. 7) This will show your Creative Labs SoundBlaster xx Plug n' Play.
Left Double Click on this. 8) Left Click on Resources. This will
display the Interrupt Request (IRQ), Direct Memory Access (DMA) and
InputOutput Range (address). You may have more than one IRQ and DMA listed.
The DMA we use is either 5,6 or 7. IRQ would be 3,5,7, or 10. The address would be 220,
240, 260 or 280. Write down these settings. These are the settings will be used in CartReady.
See the handout Configuring Your Sound Cards in CartReady. 9) We strongly recommend disabling the other features on the SoundBlaster, such as the MIDI
Port and GamePort. If they are not listed under device manager, then they
are not enabled. 10) To disable the GamePort and MIDI Port, left
double click on each one, and on the bottom of the menu it will say Original
Configuration. Un-Check the box next to this by left clicking on
the box. 11) When you have performed all of the above steps, left double click on Apply
and then on OK. NOTE: When entering Device Manager it
may mention that there is a device conflict. If this is the case, change these setting
(address, IRQ or DMA) to a different setting. IF you have trouble with this feel free to
give us a call. Configuring the ICON you made to run our software for maximum
performance Before running your system we must make some configuration changes. Right click
on the icon you created for your system (the icon located on your desktop). Then left
click on properties and make the following changes (right
click on the different tabs on the menu, such as font, program,
etc) Unless specified otherwise, all settings are the same for all programs: Program Left click on Advanced. Click on Suggest
MS-DOS as necessary. Font - Right click Both Font Types. - For size, choose 6x8 for running in a small window, 8x12 for a medium window and 8x16
for running in a full screen. Memory - Conventional Memory should be set to auto. - Expanded Memory should be set to None. - Extended Memory should be: 8196 if running CartReady ONLY and 16384 ir running any combination of READY products including RadioReady. - MS-DOS Protected Mode should be 8196 if
running CartReady ONLY and 16384 if running any
combination of READY products, including RadioReady. Setting up too much memory can
actually slow the system down. Screen - Usage should be set to Window. Initial Size should be Default. - Also click on Display Toolbar. - Do NOT click on either option under Performance.
When we say do not click on, we mean there should be no "x" in
the box next to the option Misc. - Foreground can be set to allow screen saver if you wish. - Background should always be blank. - Idle Sensitivity should be set to all the way low, or as close to low as possible without effecting the performance of other Windows applications. - Fast Pasting should be unchecked. - Termination should be set to Warn if Active. - Mouse should be left unchecked. - All Windows Shortcut keys should be checked.
When done left click OK and re-start the program. |
