The KB-CCH-2 allows you to PAUSE, PLAY, STOP, and RECORD carts from Cart Deck #1, Cart Deck #2, and the NewsReady Notepad*. (Depending on your version, the KB-CCH may also lend push button support for the live-assist screen as well) In addition, the hot buttons control these screens, even when you aren't looking at the screen. That is, the KB-CHH/1 can execute commands (Pause, Play, Stop, & Record) anywhere in the program when mapped (configured) to a particular screen which has a loaded cart in it. FOR EXAMPLE: You can load a blank cart into Cart Deck #1, then press the RECORD button wired to the KB-CCH-2. Assuming you set the global channel for Cart Deck #1 (Under Configuration) you will start recording onto the cart in Cart Deck #1, without having to hit the F5 RECORD key on the keyboard. OR After setting up a particular screen, you could be on the other side of the studio and when it is time to execute a command, just push a button. As long as you set the cart(s) up in advance, You don't have to go to the PC, you don't have to get to the right screen - you just have to push ONE button. And in some cases, simple one step automation jobs can be done. (sold separately) 컴컴컴컴컴컴컴컴컴컴컴컴컴컴컴컴컴컴컴컴컴컴컴컴컴컴컴컴컴컴컴� HOW TO SET UP THE HARDWARE Connecting the KB-CCH-2 to the PC: You will need ONE available com port (serial port) for EACH area (Notepad, Cart Deck #1, and/or Cart Deck #2) you want to control with the KB-CCH-2. FOR EXAMPLE: IF YOU ONLY WANT TO CONTROL CART DECK #1 REMOTELY, YOU ONLY NEED ONE AVAILABLE COM PORT. YOU WOULD USE ONE SIDE OF A KB-CCH-2. IF YOU WANT TO CONTROL CART DECK #1 AND THE CART DECK #2, YOU NEED TWO AVAILABLE COM PORTS. YOU WOULD USE BOTH SIDES OF A KB-CCH-2. IF YOU WANT TO CONTROL ALL 3 AREAS (NOTEPAD, CART DECK #1, AND CART DECK #2), YOU NEED 3 AVAILABLE COM PORTS. YOU WOULD USE BOTH SIDES OF ONE KB-CCH-2 AND ONLY ONE SIDE OF A SECOND KB-CCH-2. 1) WE SUGGEST THAT YOU TURN THE COMPUTER OFF WHEN YOU CONNECT OR DISCONNECT ANY DEVICES. CONNECT THE KB-CCH-2(S) TO THE COM PORT(S) ON THE PC USING THE SERIAL CABLES WHICH HAVE BEEN INCLUDED. Connecting KB-CCH-2 to Push Buttons: You need to furnish the push buttons that will be used to operate the KB-CCH-2(s). The push-buttons just have to make a closure between 2 wires. See diagram below... HOW TO SET UP THE SOFTWARE cont. 6) REPEAT STEPS 4 & 5 FOR EACH AREA YOU WILL BE CONTROLLING WITH A KB-CCH-2. REMEMBER: EACH CHANNEL (COM PORT) CAN ONLY CONTROL ONE AREA (NOTEPAD, CART DECK #1, OR CART DECK #2). 7) IF THERE IS AN AREA WHICH YOU WILL NOT BE CONTROLLING WITH A KB-CCH-2, A CHANNEL SHOULD NOT BE ASSIGNED. IF A CHANNEL IS SELECTED, HIGHLIGHT THE AREA, PRESS ENTER, HIGHLIGHT NOT ASSIGNED, AND PRESS ENTER. 8) WHEN YOU ARE THROUGH ASSIGNING THE CHANNELS, PRESS ESCAPE. 9) THE CHANGES YOU HAVE JUST MADE HAVE BEEN RECORDED IN CARTREADY'S CONFIGURATION FILE ($CONFIG.WR). IN ORDER FOR THE CHANGES TO TAKE EFFECT, YOU MUST EXIT TO DOS, AND THEN COME BACK INTO CARTREADY. 10) CONFIRM THAT THE KB-CCH-2(S) IS/ARE WORKING AS THEY SHOULD WITH THE AREAS YOU SET THEM UP TO WORK WITH. ONCE YOU CONFIRM THAT THE HARDWARE AND SOFTWARE ARE BOTH SET UP PROPERLY, YOU SHOULD WRITE DOWN THE COM PORT THAT EACH KB-CCH-2 IS CONNECTED TO AND WHICH AREA IT IS CONTROLLING. THERE ARE SPACES ON THE KB-CCH-2 BOARD TO WRITE THIS INFORMATION. 컴컴컴컴컴컴컴컴컴컴컴컴컴컴컴컴컴컴컴컴컴컴컴컴컴컴컴컴컴컴컴� HOW THE KB-CCH-2 WORKS The com ports on your PC have lines (also called pins) for communicating with external devices. The KB-CCH-2 uses 6 of these lines. Two of the lines are outputs (TD & RTS) which CartReady drives with +10 volts. The other 4 lines are inputs (CTS, RI, DSR, & CD) which, for all intensive purposes have 0 volts. The only way that the voltage of an input line can be changed from 0 volts to +10 volts, is to have something energize the line with +10 volts. That is exactly what happens when the push button is pressed. The push button brings the input line (0 volts) in contact with the output line (+10 volts) which raises the voltage on the input line to +10 volts. CartReady is constantly driving the 2 output lines, and monitoring the 4 input lines. All that CartReady is doing is watching these 4 input lines to see if any of them go to +10 volts. And as we now know, the only way that an input line gets to be +10 volts, is by bringing the input line in contact with the output line. And the way that these two lines (the input and the output) come in contact is by the push button getting pressed. When CartReady sees that one of the input lines is +10 volts, rather than 0 volts, it executes the command (Pause, Play, Stop, or Record) which is associated with the Input line that went to +10 volts (refer to diagrams on pages 1 & 3). 컴컴컴컴컴컴컴컴컴컴컴컴컴컴컴컴컴컴컴컴컴컴컴컴컴컴컴컴컴컴컴� HOW TO MAKE YOUR OWN CONTACT COLLECTOR HARNESS READ "HOW THE KB-CCH-2 WORKS" BEFORE READING THIS SECTION. 1) LOCATE (OR MAKE) A STRAIGHT THROUGH SERIAL CABLE WHICH HAS THE PROPER SIZE CONNECTOR FOR THE COM PORT (9 pin or 25 pin) ON THE PC. 2) IF YOU ARE USING A PRE-MADE CUT OFF THE END OF THE CABLE THAT WILL NOT BE CONNECTED TO THE PC. 3) YOU THEN CONNECT THE PUSH BUTTONS TO THE PINS AS OUTLINED BELOW*. The push-button for PLAY will use pins: 3(TD) & 9 (RI). The push-button for STOP will use pins: 7(RTS) & 6 (DSR). The push-button for RECORD will use pins: 7(RTS) & 1 (CD). The push-button for STOP will use pins: 4(RTS) & 6 (DSR).
