CartReady / ControlReady USC-16 Installation Procedures Scientific Atlanta Encore Procedures: The USC16 device can be connected to the ENCORE as follows: RCVR PORT (USE INCLUDED CABLE) CONNECT TO ENCORE'S REMOTE CONTROL PORT COMPUTER PORT (USE INCLUDED CABLE) CONNECT TO AVAILABLE COM PORT ON COMPUTER RUNNING CONTROLREADY PROGRAM THE LCD CHANNEL SELECTIONS ON THE ENCORE RECEIVER, WHICH CORRESPOND TO THE MEMORY SETTINGS 0 THROUGH 99. Make sure your channel presets allow all the possible output1/output2 combinations you will need. MAKE SURE THE ENCORE HAS BEEN DOWNLOADED WITH THE RIGHT SOFTWARE VERSION ON THE ENCORE. 4.011 OR GREATER IF ITS MODEL #3910, or if it's ENCORE 4495 software version should be 5 or later. The LCD display can tell you what PROM version it is. Connection looks like this: ENCORE RECEIVER -> USC16 -> COMPUTER Command language is simple, you setup a set of COMTALK commands that correspond to the channel selections in ControlReady. The command structure is *E plus the memory number. *E00 THROUGH 99 So *E50 tells the Encore to switch to it's preset #50 selection. All Comtalk commands have to end WITH a C/R character (ALT13) just like all other BTools devices. The memory selections are programmed on the Encore using it's own LCD screen and push buttons. Thus: 1) Program the Encore's memory selections #00 through #99 for the program channels/transponders you wish. 2) Program ControlReady's Custom Command Menu with the English names for the channels along with the *E(PRESET#) sequences. For example: Turn on ABC Rush COMTALK COM 3f8 9600N81 *E05 3) Use the Custom Commands to change programs as desired in your automation programs. Comtech/Fairchild DAT-384 or Ariel Receiver Procedures: NOTE: You must have one USC-16 for EACH data card that you wish to control. The USC-16 can be connected to the receiver using the included 6-ft male/female 25-pin cable. Connect between the RCVR connector on the USC-16 and the desired connector on the receiver. The USC-16 can be connected to any available com port on your computer using the included modular cable. The modular 9-pin D-sub adapter connects to the com port on the computer. The modular cable connects to the modular jack labeled COMPUTER on the USC-16. NOTE: If you are using the Scientific Atlanta model 7300/DAT-32 receiver, you need to have ordered the SCC-8/SA adapter cable. The command structure is *ZZXX.X. where ZZ is the port number (A1-A8/B1-B8) XX.X is the channel number (before the decimal point) and subchannel number (0 or 1, after the decimal point) All Comtalk commands have to end WITH a C/R character (ALT13) just like all other BTools devices. We suggest that you always use A1 for on-air audio, and B1 for auto-recorded audio. Program ControlReady's Custom Command Menu with the English names for the channels. It is easier to enter a custom command into a playlist, than to enter the required string every time you need to switch channels on the receiver. Custom commands also make understanding the playlist easier.
