Version 7 Multiple Drive Library Setup
Congratulations!!! You have just received the latest version of CartReady
TM. This version allows you to configure multiple hard drives and partitions
(drive letters, i.e D: E: etc.) on the same hard-drive. Getting Started 1) Whether to use this document: If you are installing version 7 for the first time,
use the installation disks, run SETUP and choose INSTALL WIREREADY and follow these
procedures. If you are upgrading from version 5 or 6, use the installation disks, run
SETUP, and choose UPGRADE WIREREADY and follow these procedures. (Note: never choose
INSTALL WIREREADY if you are already using a previous version, always choose UPGRADE) If you are already using Version 7, DO NOT USE THIS DOCUMENT, you've
already done these steps and can mess things up if you try them again!! Configuring the Drives It is assumed that your hard-drives are already installed, partioned,
formatted with DOS or Win95, PartionMagic etc. To test your drives, go to a C: prompt,
type DIR, and ENTER, go to a D: prompt, i.e type D: and hit ENTER, then DIR and ENTER etc.
for as many drive letters as were configured. No bad error messages should occur, except
perhaps 0 files found. 1) Start CartReady, i.e type WR or LOADCART and hit ENTER. When you go in for the first
time you will get a lot of error messages, don't worry. First it will not find the $DRIVES.DAT
and $CART.DAT. It will create both of these for
you automatically. It will also say there is no default record selected. These
and other errors are normal and will be corrected later on when you configure the system. 2) Next we will setup your drives. From the Production Screen press
F10. This will be bring up a menu. From the menu highlight Configuration
Changes and press . 3) Then highlight Drive Management and press . This will
bring you to the drive management screen. 4) Press F2 to set up a new drive (your screen will look different
than the one above). 5) Type in the first drive letter and the path that the audio will be stored under. If upgrading, and you already have carts, setup your first drive as C:\WIRE\AUDIO since
this is where all your current carts already are located. New users can put this directory
anywhere, i.e C:\AUDIO, D:\AUDIO etc. etc. For example, if your drive letter is E: and your path is AUDIO, then you would type E:\AUDIO and press . It will ask if that's okay and create the directory for you. Note: If you are typing a complex path, i.e F:\STUFF\FILES\AUDIO, the directories STUFF and FILES must already be created, since we will only create the AUDIO subdirectory in that example. 6) It will then prompt you for an alias name. This name should be a name you can easily
remember, like SPORTS if your using this drive to store sports clips.
Choose the name that best fits your needs. Assuming you have a lot of drives, choose nice
names an operator will recognize. The only time it matters is when someone fills a drive
and the computer asks them to select another drive to use for recording, or if you want
certain cuts on certain drives. Please note that once something is recorded, you never
have to remember which drive it is on. 7) Press F4 TWICE to save these settings. Converting Your Carts 1) Finally we need we need to convert all of your carts to the new version. From the Production
Screen press F10 to bring up a menu. From the menu
highlight Library Maintenance and press . Note, even if this is
a new install, you choose this to create necessary index files. 2) Then highlight Cart Library Utilities and press . 3) Highlight Create New Library and press . If on a LAN, all users need to get out of CartReady for a few minutes. 4) It will display a warning. Press Y for yes to continue. This will
convert your carts to the new library. It will again ask you if you want to proceed. Press
Y for yes. If you are on a LAN and other users are running CartReady,
they need to log out before you do step 3. 5) The library is now setup and you can continue configuring other areas of the program
(see other handouts. Features of Version 7.xxx One of the features allows you to save carts with a category. These categories are
configured by the user. Examples of categories would be Sports, News, etc..
1) From the World Menu, press F9. 2) Highlight CartReady TM Setup and
press . 3) Highlight Configure Save Category and press . This will
bring you to this screen. 4) You will get errors whenever you start the program unless you create at least one
category. 4) Type in categories you wish to use. When done, press F4 to save the
categories. 5) You can also setup Cart Statuses such as Ready-To-Air, Needs Editing, etc. Follow the same steps as above, except in step#3 highlight Configure Save Status and press . You must setup atleast one status or you'll get an error message whenever you start the program Notes for customers previously using version 5 or version 6. The new library is handled in RAM, you must have 8MB of RAM, especially if you have
more than one audio card installed in your computer. Since the library is in memory, back to back playing, and even overlapping is possible
(with a dedicated audio card). You should notice an immediate improvement in back to back play, even on a single audio
card with no overlaps. To get even more performance, see the document entitled Enhancing
the Performance of CartReady. Minor changes are evident in version 7 when you save. There are many more fields for
information. Feel free to use them. However, the only required information is still the
cart code so you aren't forced to use them. If you use start and stop dates they must be
in MM/DD/YYYY format (2000 compatible). For until further notice, put in a year like 2099.
There are currently no sort and searches based on all this added information, but a future
upgrade will provide lots of searches and sorts. Note: Exporting and saving to a rotation is now shown as a choice after you hit the
SAVE key. |
