It displays ALL your incoming wire news in chronological order with the latest feeds at the top. Go to the top at anytime by pressing F3. The Wire Browser lists all feeds by headlines, categories and priority codes supplied by each respective wire service. The Wire Browser lets you scroll down hundreds or even thousands of feeds back in time, depending on how large you made your capture file when you installed and the amount of RAM in your PC. In addition, searches can be run to show particular feeds based on category, headline or even text matches. Each feed is easy to identify with a convenient one line description, which includes a Headline, a Category, a Priority and a Date Stamp. From this screen you can read, print, edit, save and even merge wire feeds into your newscast files. With the highlight bar positioned over any feed, you can read, edit, cut & paste, append to the Notepad, print, archive save, or export to DOS. To Manually update the Wire Browser, press F3. 2) AUTOMATICALLY update the Wire Browser. To have the Wire Browser automatically update the Wire Browser, you simply need to set it up to do so. You can still manually update the browser when the automatic update function is used. To enable/disable and set the time interval for the automatic update function: a) While on the Wire Browser, press F10. The automatic update function is OFF and will NOT update automatically. To use the QuickPeek: While on the Wire Browser, press the INSERT key to open up the first line of the QuickPeek window (below the last headline). Each time you press the INSERT the size of the QuickPeek window will increase by one line. You can then scroll up and down the Wire Browser to preview your wire feeds. You can do anything in the QuickPeek mode that you can in the default mode (ie. when you press <ÄÙ to read the feed), like press F5 to print, and append/prepend feeds to the notepad). WireReady needs to know which feeds you want see. You specify which feeds you want to be include in the search when you set up a search. Then when you run the search, WireReady will check ALL of the wire feeds and only display those which meet the search specifications. Let's say that you set up the search specifications to show all feeds with a category of WEATHER, and a priority of BULLETIN or ALERT, with the word "WARNING" in the text of the feed. When you run the search WireReady will first check ALL of the feeds and filter out all of the feeds which do not have the category of WEATHER. Then WireReady will look at all the feeds which were not filtered out (WEATHER) and filter out all which do not have priorities of BULLETIN or ALERT. Lastly, WireReady will look at all of the feeds which were not filtered out (category: Weather; Priority: BULLETIN or ALERT) and filter out all of the feeds which do not have the string of characters (word) "WARNING". The feeds which remain after all of the filtering is done are then displayed on the Wire Browser. You can then work with the feeds just as you do when the Wire Browser is showing ALL feeds (stories). While the feeds which you have searched for are displayed on the Wire Browser, you will still capture all of the wire feeds being sent. However, they will not be displayed on the Wire Browser until you press F3 to UPDATE. The box on the top right is just there as a reminder of how to run, delete, and edit searches. The box on the left is your list of searches. The large box is where the search specifications (requirements) are chosen and displayed. The box on the bottom of the screen is the option box which displays the keys to press for certain functions. For now you only need to be concerned with the list of searches and the search specifications (requirements). You can move between these two boxes by pressing the TAB key. The list of searches box contains the searches which you have set up and saved and/or the searches that came with the WireReady system. These searches can be run, changed, renamed, set to auto-print, set to auto-alarm, or deleted. You can also add searches to this list. The search specifications (requirements) box is where you specify which feeds you want to be displayed when the search is executed. Also, when you arrow up/down through the list of searches the specifications for the search which is highlighted will be displayed in this box. For each problem we offer solutions. If you have exhausted these solutions and still are not able to get your search to show the feeds which you want (and you know they exist), give us a call. 1) Problem: You have run a search and there are not any feeds displayed on the Wire Browser, and you are SURE that the feed(s) which you are searching for are present. - Check your search specifications to make sure they are what you want them to be. - If you are using Headline Matches or Text Matches you want to make sure that the character string(s) which you have specified are correct. For example, if you are looking for feeds about a bill that went before the U.S. Senate today and you have typed in SENATE as the character string to search for, those characters S-E-N-A-T-E must be present. However, let's say that the feed does not contain the word SENATE and instead uses the word SENATORS. Well, no stories will be found because the character string S-E-N-A-T-E does not exist. In this situation, as is true in most searching situations, you should only type the minimum number of characters that you need to. In the above example this would entail just typing SENAT, as BOTH feeds that contain either the word SENATE and/or SENATOR will be found and displayed on the Wire Browser (because both words contain the character string S-E-N-A-T). 2) Problem: You have set a search to automatically print/alarm and it is doing neither. - First verify that the feed(s) which you think should have printed/alarmed have been received and are in the Wire Browser. Then run the search manually by highlighting the search name and pressing <ÄÙ. If the feed(s) you wanted to print, which were shown on the browser before you ran the search manually, are now not displayed when you run the search, then your search specifications are not set to include the feed(s). See problem #1. - Make sure that the printer is powered on, connected to the computer properly, and On-Line. - Verify that you are able to print from the Wire Browser (F5). If you cannot print from the Wire Browser, then the problems lies elsewhere than in the way the search is set up. If you can print from the Wire Browser, then re-check your search specifications. - Make sure that the alarm, if you have one, is powered up and all the cables are tightly connected. If they are, see the separate instructions for the WireReady alarm and verify that the alarm is set up as it should be. Most users set this to "Disabled". 4) Uppercase Lock - This setting determines if the feeds will be BOTH displayed and printed in upper case or lower case. To Change any of these configuration options: 1) From the Wire Browser, press F8. This option only matters with ANPA feeds. This should usually be set to YES. 2) Display control codes - This setting determines whether or not the control codes will be displayed in the QuickPeek mode. This should usually be set to NO. 3) Compress new lines - This determines if line feeds within the feeds will cause the text to move move down a line. This should usually be set to NO. You should set it to YES only if a few lines at the top of the feeds are blank and thereby limits the text which you would like to be able to see in QuickPeek mode.
